Guru Prasad Das (1904-1982) was an Assamese Engineer of the early part of the 20th century. Born in Barpeta, Assam he completed his High school in Kolkata and then he left for England to get training on Mechanical engineering. During his stay in England, he made a few machines the most important of which was the Vacuum braking system commonly used in Rails known as GP Brakes. Later on he was conferred with the title of “Associated Member of Institute of Mechanical Engineers.”

The school of Vocational Studies is named after the great inventor and entrepreneur of Assam, Guru Prasad Das as a tribute to his inventions and contributions to society. He is widely considered an Icon with regard to skill-based training. A number of skill-based Certificate, Diploma and other training programmes are offered under this School.
