Discovery of Assam Tea Plant

With a history spanning 5,000 years of cultivation, tea has come to occupy an important place among plantation crops of the world. Today some 62 countries grow tea. Although tea was cultivated in China from the ancient past and had monopoly in tea trade, the entire scenario of tea industry in the world had changed after introduction of tea in India, and most importantly after the discovery of Assam tea plant.
