Tea is grown in Mozambique in Milange, Gurue, Socone and Tacuane districts. The tea areas lie between 150 and 17 0 S latitudes at an elevation of 300m to 1000m.The great potential for the country for producing tea has been dashed by the war of independence and particularly by the civil war which followed a disturbance which has left most tea estates and factories. Many of the plantations have essentially become forests. Under the FRELIMO government the tea industry was nationalised under a parent body EMOCHA, but the industry is now being privatized.
