Dr. Sarmistha Rani Baruah is an Assistant Professor at Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, Guwahati, Assam, since 2015. With a strong academic foundation, she earned her Ph.D., M.Sc. (Agri), and B.Sc. (Agri) degrees from Assam Agricultural University, Assam. She plays a key role in the development and coordination of a range of academic programs/courses such as Tea Cultivation and Plantation Management, Commercial Nursery Management, Organic Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, and Rural Development. She has actively contributed to the creation of self-learning materials (SLMs), MOOCs, audio-visual learning content.
Dr. Baruah has also held important administrative roles, including Zonal Officer for Master Degree Examination Evaluation zone of the University and Assistant Registrar (Examination). She is undertaking research in the capacity of Principal Investigator for an Institutional research project titled “Changing Land Usage and Land Relation in Rural Assam: A Study in Morigaon District.”
Her research focuses on Horticulture, rural development and agrarian change. She has published Research articles in many reputed journals and conference proceedings. She has mentored M.Phil. Scholar and is currently supervising four Ph.D. scholars. Her commitment to academic innovation is also reflected in her involvement in national-level online education platforms like SWAYAM and international collaborations such as the UNESCO Chair OE4BW initiative.
