Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) celebrated World Sanskrit Day 2026 on August 31, 2026, with an intellectually and culturally enriching programme organised by the Department of Sanskrit under the Padmanath Gohain Baruah School of Humanities. Coinciding with the full-moon day of Shravana and Raksha Bandhan, the event featured a Mangalacharana by Assistant Professor Pinku Kalita, introductory remarks on the philosophical and scientific depth of the language by Vice-Chancellor Professor Rajendra Prasad Das, and a keynote lecture titled “The Importance of Sanskrit and Its Relevance in the Present Times” by Professor Mukta Biswas. Speakers emphasised that Sanskrit is not merely a religious language but a principal source of India's classical textual heritage and scientific knowledge tradition. The event, which concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor Leena Ojah, reaffirmed KKHSOU's ongoing commitment to preserving this legacy through its various postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programmes in Sanskrit Literature and the Indian Traditional Knowledge System.
