KKHSOU observed World Mental Health Day on Sunday by organizing a national online awareness talk focused on student mental well-being and suicide prevention. The program, organized by the university's Discipline of Social Work, addressed the rising academic, psychological, and financial pressures faced by youth in higher education. Delivering the introductory address, Prof. Joydeep Baruah, Director of the SKB School of Social Sciences at KKHSOU, highlighted how complex socio-economic factors contribute to suicidal thoughts and stressed the collective responsibility of different societal sectors in prevention. The keynote speaker, Dr. Vinit Ghosh, Associate Professor of Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour at FLAME University, Pune, presented a comprehensive, evidence-based roadmap for institutional intervention. He emphasised that educational institutions must actively look beyond simple awareness campaigns and implement structural changes. Dr. Ghosh identified academic stress, professional anxiety, social environments, and financial constraints as the four core areas requiring urgent attention, calling for early stress identification, sensitive dialogue, and accessible professional counseling to break the stigma surrounding mental illness. The virtual event, which was coordinated by Dr. Mridusmita Duara, Assistant Professor of Social Work, concluded with an active discussion attended by the university's director, faculty members, and a large number of students from across the region.
