KKHSOU's 6th Convocation: A Celebration of Academic Excellence and Inclusivity
The Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) hosted its 6th Convocation at the University Auditorium, City Campus, Khanapara, Guwahati on 5th March 2024, marking a monumental celebration of academic achievement and inclusivity.
Presided over by the esteemed Governor of Assam and Chancellor of the University, Gulab Chand Kataria, the ceremony witnessed the conferral of degrees upon deserving awardees. Professor Sushma Yadava, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Haryana, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, adding to the event's prestige.
A staggering total of 10,880 degrees, diplomas, and certificates were bestowed, showcasing the dedication and hard work of the learners. Among the notable achievements were 13 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, 13 MPhil degrees, 5464 Undergraduate degrees, 5322 Postgraduate degrees, and 68 Postgraduate Diplomas. Impressively, nearly half of the awardees were female learners, reflecting KKHSOU's commitment to gender equality.
The convocation also honored 28 learners with Gold Medals for their outstanding academic performances. Notably, Chandra Prabha Mahanta (75 years old) and Mahendra Bhuyan (72 years old), the two senior-most learners, received their Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees, respectively, inspiring attendees with their lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
Furthermore, the event recognized the dedication of seven jail inmates who completed academic programs, symbolizing the transformative power of education. One inmate from Guwahati Central Jail even attended the convocation in person, showcasing the university's commitment to inclusivity and societal integration.
Chief Guest Sushma Yadava lauded KKHSOU's alignment with the National Education Policy 2020 and emphasized the importance of integrating the Indian Knowledge System into the curriculum. She commended the university for its role in democratizing education through Open and Distance Learning, breaking down barriers of access and affordability.
Chancellor Gulab Chand Kataria hailed KKHSOU's significant contribution to higher education in Assam, highlighting its representation of 11% of total enrollment, and reiterated the university's commitment to excellence and accessibility in education.
