Omkar Dadarkar’s Enchanting Khayal Performance at KKHSOU
Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University organised a programme on Hindustani Classical Music (Vocal) on 14th March, 2024 at the University Auditorium situated at Khanapara, Guwahati. The event was supported by the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India and SRF Foundation. . It is worth mentioning here that SPIC MACAY is a non-profit, voluntary, non-political and participatory student movement that was founded in 1977 with the objective of enriching the quality of formal education by increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring the young mind to imbibe the values embedded in it. Established in 1982, SRF Foundation champions the cause of quality education in India and runs one of the largest community programs in and around SRF’s manufacturing plant locations as well as in other parts of the country.
Shri Omkar Dadarkar, one of the leading vocalists of the present generation in the field of Hindustani Classical Music of the country performed in the said programme. He was accompanied by Shri Suprabhat Bhattacharya on tabla and Shri Susanta Chowdhury on harmonium. Shri Suprabhat Bhattacharya is a renowned tablist and Shri Susanta Chowdhury is the Dean of Activities and Coordinator at Royal Global School, Guwahati. Faculty members, learners, research scholars ,senior officials of the University and other distinguished guests were part of the august gathering that came to witness the spellbinding performance of the musical trio.
The Registrar (i/c) of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University Professor Pranjit Bora, in his welcome address, highlighted the importance of such an event in increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring young minds. He specifically thanked SPIC MACAY and SRF Foundation for giving the University a platform to showcase such an event. He was of the opinion that when the youth are exposed to the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry of Indian and World Heritage, it would go a long way in influencing their way of life and thinking thereby becoming a better human being.
Dr. Trisha Dowerah Baruah, Assistant Professor of Mass Communication, KKHSOU compered the entire programme. Dr. Mrinal Jyoti Goswami, Assistant Professor of Assamese, KKHSOU who was also the convenor of the programme, offered the formal vote of thanks. The programme was appreciated by one and all who came to witness the musical recital.
